Paint a Landfill Surfboard Workshop at Splendour in the Grass

Updated: Aug 12

When you think of music festivals, what comes to mind? Outstanding live performances, dance floors buzzing with energy, and a sense of community. But what if we told you there's more to experience beyond the stages and the incredible lineup? Welcome to Splendour in the Grass's hidden gem – Little Splendour, where young people and their families can escape the large crowds and experience a safe place with age-appropriate activities and workshops.

Splendour doesn’t hold back when it comes to performances, nor doesn’t Little Splendour, hence why Splendour in the Grass is renowned for being Australia's biggest and best Music Festival. This is why we were stoked when asked to bring one of our ‘Paint a Landfill Surfboard’ workshops to participate in the action.

The lineup for Little Splendour was jammed packed with Mermaids, Jugglers, Stilt walkers, DJ Lessons, A jumping Castle, A massive Sandpit, Non-stop performances from talented acrobats and a rock climbing wall.

We were set up in the Kids Workshop tent with two Surfboards that were saved from Landfill, cleaned up and with the Splendour logo painted on it. From then on, it was a free for all in Creativity, which our two facilitators guided and encourage participation.

Overall, Splendour had come back, full guns blazing, after the Covid Pandemic and torrential rain from the previous year and we were stoked to be a part of it.

Saving boards from landfill at Splendour in the Grass

We have made it our mission to transform 100 landfill boards into unique works of art. With the recent events, we have successfully hit halfway with 50 boards.
